Your Rights as a Customer

Before the legal language, here's what you're entitled to as a Gather the Family user:

Right to Export

Download your complete family tree in GEDCOM format at any time, including all photos, notes, and sources.

Right to Cancel

Cancel your subscription anytime with no penalty fees. Keep access until your billing period ends.

Right to Delete

Request complete deletion of your account and all associated data from our systems.

Refund Policy

Not satisfied within 30 days of a paid subscription? Contact us for a full refund, no questions asked.

Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using Gather the Family ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

Description of Service

Gather the Family is a genealogy platform that allows you to create, manage, and share family trees. The Service includes features for storing family information, uploading photos and documents, and collaborating with family members.

User Accounts

  • You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service
  • One person may not maintain more than one account

Your Content

You retain ownership of all content you upload to the Service, including family tree data, photos, documents, and stories. By uploading content, you grant us a limited license to store, display, and process that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

You are responsible for ensuring that:

  • You have the right to upload and share the content
  • The content does not violate any laws or third-party rights
  • You have appropriate consent to share information about living individuals

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose
  • Upload malicious content or attempt to compromise the Service
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users
  • Impersonate others or provide false information
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
  • Use automated systems to access the Service without permission

Privacy of Living Individuals

When adding information about living people to your family tree, you are responsible for obtaining their consent and respecting their privacy. Do not share sensitive personal information about living individuals without their permission.

Data Export

You may export your family tree data at any time in GEDCOM format. We believe your data belongs to you, and you should always be able to take it with you.

Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the Service. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice when possible.

Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Upon termination, your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any genealogical information or research suggestions provided through the Service.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or through the Service. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
